Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, the young designers behind hip NY-based label Proenza Schouler, recently delved into accessories with a line of shoes and handbags (able to do so thanks to selling a share of their company to Valentino Group). With remarkable savvy, they gave their PS1 line of bags to trendsetter friends like Mary-Kate Olsen and Vanessa Traina (socialite daughter of romance novelist Danielle Steel) to create pre-roll out buildup. Needless to say it worked and their bags are getting noticed.
Unfortunately (or fortunately for them?), the PS1 bag – designed to be the ultimate anti-it bag with its unbranded, utilitarian, unstructured appearance – seems completely destined to be another it-bag in the making.
Thoughts on the PS1 line? Nonchalantly covetable or plain boring?
