2009 seems to be the year for fashion movies. In addition to the Vogue documentary, The September Issue which premiered at Sundance, and the Isla Fisher-led bomb Confessions of a Shopaholic, there’s a slew of others…
There are four films about Coco Chanel slated, first up is Coco Avant Chanel starring Audrey Tautou. This film chronicles Coco’s earlier years and her struggles while two other films focus on the relationship between Coco and Igor Stravinsky — Coco & Igor and Chanel et Stravinsky, l’Histoire Secrete.
Check out the trailer for Coco Avant Chanel, which is in French but worth watching. Supposedly, Karl Lagerfeld collaborated with the costume designer, so expect some very authentic outfits. The film comes out this month in France but no release date has been set for North America.
And for a more satiric movie, Sasha Baron Cohen hits screens again on July 10, this time as Austrian Brüno. Cohen as Brüno made fashion headlines when he crashed Spring/Summer 2009 runway shows, including Jean Charles de Castelbajac and Stella McCartney (below) .
