gilded reality

Givenchy Fall/Winter 2009/10
Adriana Lima, Mariacarla Boscono, Iris Strubegger, Ranya Mordanova, Leonor Scherrer, Simon Nessman, Jakob Wiechmann & Manuel Ramos/Photographers: Mert and Marcus

Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima (who just announced her pregnancy, next up Gisele?) makes a return splash to high fashion, looking almost unrecognizable in Givenchy‘s Fall/Winter ads with bleached eyebrows, dark makeup and moody scowl. She’s joined by Riccardo Tisci favourite Mariacarla, Iris, Leonor and relative newcomer Ranya, who is overshadowed by the vets. Male models Simon Nessman, Jakob Wiechmann and Manuel Ramos star in the men’s campaign.

The fall ads were shot by Mert and Marcus, who took over from Inez and Vinoodh who held the account for nine seasons. And according to Tisci, the ads are supposed to be more French and accessible, he said, “I wanted to give this feeling of going from a studio to reality. It’s important to give reality to women.” Whose reality this is I don’t know… but these ads strike me as surprisingly mundane, despite the best glowering and attitude of the models.

    Fa Bu Lust!
Great to see MariaCarla back and Iris is my new Stella Tennant.
Its amazing how Adriana reinvented herself just before the bump.I wonder if she’ll do likewise after the baby.Like Eva Herzagova.

Glad Mariacarla continues to work with Givenchy and Stella is a good comparison for Iris, I really like her output of work lately. Hopefully Adriana can do more high fashion stuff before she starts showing!
