where’s the glamour? it’s vogue

The highly quotable trailer for RJ Cutler’s documentary The September Issue is out, leading up to the September premiere. The trailer features many familiar faces—Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Karl Lagerfeld, Mario Testino, Grace Coddington, Candy Pratts Price, Coco Rocha, Caroline Trentini—and of course the film’s main focus, the one and only Anna Wintour.

From the trailer, it’s clear that Wintour is not far from her hard-nosed rep. She seems to strike both fear and awe from the likes of designers, stylists and Vogue staffers. Thakoon Panichgul even likens her to “Madonna,” not sure in what context, but they do have ripped arms in common.

One thing I’m definitely looking forward to is seeing more of Vogue‘s creative director Grace Coddington, who comes across as wry and sharp yet very amiable—an excellent counterpoint to Wintour’s daunting presence.

Grace Coddington must surely be Anna’s alter ego. They’ve been friends for over 30 years and are slices of old ham in the fashion industry as you know.Grace used to be a stunning model in the early 70s so my guess is Anna adores her friend but secretly feels like the ugly sister.
The film had its European opening on Monday in Edinburgh(? but true)and apparently its quite good. The director was interviewed afterwards and admitted that he and Grace Coddington are preparing to work on a film together related to models.Grace has always been in the shadows so you’re right it would be great to see more of her and that gorgeous flaming hair.(there were once rumours Lily Cole was her daughter lol..untrue of course.)

A lot of people at Vogue look like slices of old ham as you put it haha. They do seem to have an interesting dynamic. And that Lily Cole rumor is hilarious, never heard that before!
Not sure what day it opens in Vancouver, but I’m already planning ahead to make people watch it with me!
