Fashion is constantly changing at light speed with one designer in today and out the next. Today was no exception, marking a bittersweet occasion in the haute couture world with what could very well be Christian Lacroix’s final show, contrasted by showings from the surging Givenchy and always steadfast Chanel.
Lacroix, felled by bankruptcy woes, showed an atypically muted collection with lots of navy and black. Riccardo Tisci went with a Middle Eastern theme for the Givenchy couture collection and vitally continues to cast a diverse range of models.
Karl Lagerfeld set the Chanel show amongst giant No. 5 perfume bottles and added splashes of colour to the usually monochromatic palette. Although there was less coherency than the last Chanel couture season, Lagerfeld showed a willingness to experiment using a variety of fabrics and patterns. What didn’t change was his casting of favourites. The bride and groom finale featured Lara Stone and Lagerfeld poster boy Baptiste Giabiconi, who looks a little too much like a busted Italian Chace Crawford for me!
