spring 2010 couture

Couture seems to have lost its luster, excitement and moments of jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring beauty  this season.  Most houses (Dior, Elie Saab, Armani) were tastefully pretty and played it relatively safe… Valentino went in a more youthful direction, although woefully so, while Chanel was tops for me. All in all, it was a pretty unmemorable couture season, not to mention sad in the absence of Christian Lacroix and his colourful creations. Here’s a rundown in pics…

Christian Dior

Givenchy

Jean Paul Gaultier

Valentino

Armani

Elie Saab

Chanel

Maison Martin Margiela

Dior’s equestrian suits,Chanel & JPG won the couture week for me.
Givenchy received a lukewarm welcome but I thought it was interesting.Tischi remains the dark horse of couture and I like rebels anyway.
The duo at Valentino seemed to have gone a bit wayward.I didn’t see the Avatar path they wanted to take but saw instead a pastiche of Ghesquire/Balenciaga and Ungaro.

BTW Tavi in that silly Stephen Jones head piece looked liked an arthritic grandmother at her controversial Dior frontrow seat.Poor girl.
