fashion meets the 2010 winter olympics

While New York’s under a blanket of snow for fall fashion week, the 2010 Winter Olympics are kicking off tonight in my hometown, Vancouver. NY should really send some snow this way cuz we’ve been snowless! But at least some fashion is infiltrating the Olympics… Canadian design duo Dan and Dean Caten of DSquared2 will be at Holt Renfrew tomorrow from 5-7pm for a meet and greet – hocking the hoodies below, which go for a steep $350 a pop! A little too much to ask for me…

And Holt also commissioned Alexander McQueen to design an exclusive set of 250 of his iconic skull scarves superimposed with maple leafs ($450) for the Olympics here. In light of his tragic passing, these look to be some of his last designs and will likely be snapped up from shelves.

In other news, The New York Times Magazine got Ryan McGinley to capture American winter sport athletes like Johnny Weir (below), Shaun White and Emily Cook in Rodarte for their pages. I think it would amazing if Weir really wore Rodarte for the competition!!

And lastly, Fashionologie reports that Catherine McNeil’s rumored to be in Vancouver, forgoing NYFW and the blast of snow for Olympic festivities. Wonder if there’s more fashion peeps in the city?

While I wasn’t that stoked for the Olympics in Vancouver a few months ago, I definitely am now. Should be lots of fun with the crazy events, concerts, parties and mass of international visitors. It’ll be a jam-packed weekend with the Olympics here, NYFW happening and don’t forget Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year. Hope everyone has an awesome weekend celebrating whatever festivities apply!! I’m heading out now to check out the excitement, wearing my oh-so-patriotic Olympic hoodie and red mittens, and of course, can’t forget my McQueen skull scarf 😦
