we are one

As a followup to the print ads, the CK One commercial dropped today in rather a timely fashion seeing as it hammers home a message of unity and oneness. The ad features models from all walks of life singing the refrain of “we are one” and risks being too cloying if it weren’t quite so earnest. And coincidentally, the ad is released on the day of Barack Obama’s inauguration thus aligning itself with much grander, meaningful themes. I’m sure the savvy marketing here need not be spelled out.

Calvin Klein’s bringing back the memorable CK One adverts from the mid-90s with a massive cast of young and old (or what’s considered old in the fashion world). Meisel captures up-and-coming models Liu Wen, Will Lewis, Dennis, Heidi Mount and Sessilee Lopez (who’s been linked with Kanye), established models Coco Rocha,  Jessica Miller, Jamie Burke and Strachan, and the really established models Guinevere van Seenus and Kirsten Owen.

This is the third reinvention of the CK One ads. The original ran from 1994-96 and the second from 2005-08. In contrast with the grungy Kate Moss and company ads, these ads are scrubbed clean, looking more like they’re hawking bottled water, albeit slutty bottled water, which is what perfume is I suppose.
